A Message from Andi Fouberg & Steve Erpenbach
Welcome to the first edition of STATE from the newly formed SDSU Alumni & Foundation!
After unanimous votes of the governing boards of the SDSU Alumni Association and SDSU Foundation in October, we officially became one organization on Jan. 1, 2026.
While this was not something we went into lightly, the decision to consolidate the two organizations seemed easy from the jump. When the alumni association joined the foundation in the expanded Lohr Building in 2017, the collaboration between the two organizations increased immediately. It is common to go into a consolidation or merger out of need or weakness, but in our case, both organizations were strong, ready for an opportunity to build off that strength.
When we talked to colleagues who have done this at other universities, that was not often the case. We were able to learn from others and apply that information to what we believe will best serve the interests of SDSU and its supporters. And we get to do it with the team of people who have invested their time and talent into both organizations, some for over two decades.
New signage has been installed on the building, a beautiful new website has been launched, and we are ready to grow strategically together to make a bigger, bolder impact on SDSU. We hope you will take time to read more about the consolidation later in this magazine and check out our new website and social media channels to see how you, too, can make an impact on SDSU.
With loyal hearts so true,
Andi Fouberg

Steve Erpenbach
SDSU Alumni & Foundation Chief Executive Officer
