Family of the Year

The South Dakota State University Family of the Year Award is a uniquely special honor, recognizing one family from the yellow and blue community each year.

Beginning in 1979, the title has spotlighted standout families based on their dedication, loyalty, support, and overall contributions of time, talent, and treasure to SDSU. It’s a tribute to the families whose dedication and passion help keep the SDSU community thriving.

The Gullickson Family

For Dave and Elaine Gullickson, life in Brookings and love for South Dakota State University have always gone hand in hand. Decades later, their children and grandchildren have carried on that legacy — graduating from SDSU, cheering from the stands, and giving back to the Jackrabbit community. Their family’s enduring devotion earned them recognition as the 2025 Family of the Year.
