By the time you read this, the Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Foundation Council of Trustees will have decided whether to consolidate the two organizations into the South Dakota State University Alumni and Foundation.
As we have worked through the details of the consolidation, I have defined the why as chasing impact. We are strategically planning for the future of what it looks like to serve alumni, friends, Jackrabbits, donors and, most importantly, SDSU.
We are asking, and inviting, questions about how we impact the lives of people who love SDSU and how they can impact SDSU. Impact can be hard to measure, but chasing it leaves evidence. Tens of thousands of alumni and friends join us in chasing impact every year. Recently, nearly 6,000 of you joined us in giving to areas around campus important to you on One Day for STATE. Every year, thousands of you join us for events and activities near and far, roll up your sleeves for Jacks Give Back, and serve on chapter and advisory boards.
Those collective efforts leave behind evidence that is easy to see. As I walk around campus, as I talk to students, faculty and staff, I can see the impact of generations of generosity, leadership and care for the college on the hill. When I hear the stories of alumni, young and old, I learn about the impact of a place that means so much to so many.
Every day we are presented with the opportunity to make an impact on our families, friends, communities, workplaces and, yes, our alma mater. It is our job to make an impact, and we spend every day chasing that. We hope you will join us.
