First Bank & Trust commits $20 million to Frost Arena renovation
In the largest single gift in university history, the Brookings-based First Bank & Trust committed $20 million to support the renovation of Frost Arena.
Under the agreement, First Bank & Trust will assume naming rights to the facility, which serves as the home competition venue for Jackrabbit men’s and women’s basketball, wrestling, and volleyball.
Details
Estimated at $50 million overall, the renovation project is expected to take two years to complete. Construction will take place in multiple phases to avoid relocation and interruption of SDSU events.
Once complete, fan experience and gameday atmosphere will be taken to the next level with:
- new premium seating areas and suites,
- state-of-the-art video board and display systems,
- an enhanced sound system,
- a more spacious concourse,
- and improved restrooms.
New and improved locker rooms and offices are also a part of the renovation design, which will have an estimated capacity of 5,500.
Student-athletes like Zeke Mayo will have the unique experience of competing in both the existing arena and the renovated facility. While he’s excited to join the Jackrabbits on the basketball court before and after the transition, he’s most excited to see the impact the upgrades will have beyond campus.
“I know this renovation will bring joy to not only the student-athletes that use Frost Arena, but also to all fans who take part in the Jackrabbit experience.” - Zeke Mayo
Mayo’s experience, along with that of generations of student-athletes and fans alike, is made possible by the game-changing generosity of First Bank & Trust and its founding Fishback family.
These longtime supporters of SDSU will transform Jackrabbit Athletics, bringing about a bold era of connection through community events and competitions.
